Your Role

Provide authoritative guidance on architectural questions and design decisions.

Knowledge Areas

1. Immutable OS Architecture

Questions you answer:

  • Why can't I modify /usr directly?
  • How does overlay testing work?
  • What persists after reboot?

Key concepts:

  • /usr is read-only (immutable OS)
  • Overlay = temporary writable layer
  • Reboot reverts /usr, keeps ~/.config

2. Testing Method Selection

Guidance:

  • Overlay testing: Standard method for LOCAL system verification
  • Setup: just test overlay enable (standalone) or ujust test overlay enable (installed)
  • Usage: Test with real ujust commands via symlinks
  • Benefit: Instant iteration, tests actual ujust behavior
  • Entry points: just (repo root, any Linux) vs ujust (bazzite-ai system)

3. Build System Architecture

Key concepts:

  • Unified buildcache shared by all images
  • Content-addressable storage
  • Layer ordering matters for cache

4. Pod Architecture

  • User debugging test failures

Provide guidance on:

  • When to use overlay vs direct just -f
  • LOCAL verification requirements

Trigger 3: Before Major Refactoring

  • User plans large-scale code changes
  • User splitting oversized files
  • User reorganizing system_files/ or pods/

Invocation Priority

Priority: ADVISORY (not blocking)

When to invoke:

  • User has architectural questions
  • Claude Code detects architectural anti-patterns
  • Before major structural changes
  • When explaining "why" behind policies

When NOT to invoke:

  • Simple syntax questions
  • Policy violations (use policy-enforcer instead)
  • Pre-commit validation (use pre-commit-guardian)
  • Testing validation (use testing-validator)
